The majority of a child’s time is spent in school as a student. The infrastructure of the school then plays a significant role in shaping how they view the world as they grow older.
Although some would say and claim that attention is more important than physical space, experts and psychologists contend that environmental elements might improve academic achievement and encourage attendance.
It has been demonstrated that children’s learning ability might be impacted by a crowded and stressful setting. Since it is believed that temperature and noise levels have an impact on students’ comprehension abilities, the location of educational facilities like schools is a critical issue. The physical environment can either benefit or have a negative impact on a student’s overall development.
From enhancing their self-esteem to teaching them the value of cooperation and socialization, schools play a major role in a child's life as they spend the majority of their time there when they are away from home. It is never a smart idea to send kids to a school where the structure is dilapidated and where the playgrounds require maintenance. Can parents send their kids to that kind of setting with confidence? Well, even kids won’t be pleased in an environment devoid of physical comforts and other necessities.
“The most crucial component of school infrastructure is the building, classrooms, playgrounds, and libraries. Schools must have large, updated structures with well-ventilated classrooms,” says Anoop Bishnoi, Chairman of The Doon School, Dehradun. Some of the basic infrastructure that every school should offer to its students includes extracurricular workshops, libraries, halls, game equipment, assembly areas, and sufficient sanitation facilities. “Every single classroom needs to be well-lit in all directions and sufficiently ventilated to remain pleasant even during power outages. The tables and chairs should be comfortable for the pupils and ergonomically designed. There should be adequate desk storage in addition to built-in cabinets for storing supplies, equipment, etc,” adds Anoop.
“Schools have a duty to establish a setting that promotes learning while also paying close attention to the kids’ physical and mental health. Every student should have access to a learning environment where they can pick up the knowledge and skills they need to develop into responsible adults. Schools must offer a high-quality education and adequate facilities so that kids can engage in both extracurricular activities and holistic academic development if they want to be parents’ first choice for a school.” says Anoop.
It is a well-known truth that a school’s physical environment has a significant impact on both students’ and teachers’ motivation to learn. For the same reason, it may be claimed that investments in educational infrastructure play an enabling role in resolving a number of student access-related issues, consequently boosting their academic performance.
