Metaverse in Education-Blurring the Boundaries

Technologies that are always changing are what are causing change in all spheres of existence. Although the pandemic completely changed the paradigms of education and of course made a lot of situations worse, it did some good too, and that was that it made the educational community more open and accepting towards the use of technology in education. “Only when instruction can keep students interested can it be considered successful, the same applies in all spheres of learning. We all know and understand well how short-spanned our attention and concentration have become these days, yes technology is to be blamed for it, but it is technology only which is undeniably essential for connecting with students and improving their engagement with the course material,” says Anoop Bishnoi, Chairman of The Doon School, Dehradun.

Technology is the future of education, and including metaverse in the educational sector will enhance the overall learning experience for good. If a subject is presented interactively in a virtual setting, understanding it becomes even better and more interesting. For instance, consider traveling as a small cell through the human circulatory system. That is just one example of how the metaverse teaches people. It will become simple to practice skills-based occupations like astrophysical experiments and medical procedures, sounds genius, right? “The metaverse opens a number of doors for the education sector to increase its reach and awareness. The ability to communicate and demonstrate your institution’s capabilities is one of the primary benefits of the metaverse. Everything, including the curriculum, resources, and augmented learning, may be visualized and gamified to provide a user experience that increases the value of an institution. One can now easily experience the infrastructure and facilities of a school/college before they even enter the premises, isn’t it an amazing gift of Metaverse? “ adds Anoop.

Metaverse is clearly an experience on its own, people can interact with one another, work, play, and worship in a setting where the boundaries between the digital and physical worlds are permeable by donning virtual reality headsets or augmented reality glasses. “It’s obvious that schooling will change, and this development will alter our culture too. The metaverse will enable us to have rich interactions with teachers and fellow students from all around the world, which will no doubt improve our reality.” says Anoop. However, this does not imply that the metaverse will end with the conventional in-person education models. Simply put, this enables students from South Africa or Spain to pursue graduate education in the United States or India, respectively, without having to pay for housing, food, or any of the other expenses associated with migrating to a new country. People from all around the world will have access to a more equitable world of opportunities if the metaverse will be introduced in the education sector effectively.

Students will gain information, skills, and intuition through immersive educational experiences that are so realistic and dynamic that they become second nature – more like participating in a virtual apprenticeship than attending a course. We must accept that this is the direction that education is going into and should embrace it when the time comes as it’s going to be a deep, transferable learning that will last a lifetime.
